Dialectics Reminds Us That:

The universe is filled with opposing sides/opposing forces.

There is always more than one way to see a situation, and more than one way to solve a problem.

Two things that seem like opposites can both be true.

Everything and every person is connected in some way.

The waves and the ocean are one.

The slightest move of the butterfly affects the furthest star.

Change is the only constant.

Meaning and truth evolve over time.

Each moment is new; reality itself changes with each moment.

Change is transactional.

What we do influences our environment and other people in it.

The environment and other people influence us.

Rock Balancing

Your Source for Personal Growth

Perhaps you are a hard working person that goes to work everyday, take care of your responsibilities and everyone thinks you have it all together, but secretly you are struggling and often times you're sad or stressed. Perhaps you want to find the balance of working and living a life worth living. Perhaps meeting with a therapist has never crossed your mind in the past because of the judgments associated with seeing a therapist. I can help.

I  can teach you how to manage relationships, maintain your self-respect, and get what you need from others. I can teach you how to live in the present and focus your attention how and when you want to. I can teach you how to  understand, manage and effectively respond to your emotions. I can teach you how to endure painful situations without making them worse.

Do you feel like you are often on an emotional roller-coaster? Do you say things or react to circumstances and feel regret afterwards? Do you experience drama or chaos in your relationships? Do you struggle with controlling your emotions? If you answered yes to one of these questions, I guarantee that you are not alone and I can help.

Support That Makes a Difference

Life throws many surprises at us, and while we cannot predict the outcome of any situation, we can take control of how we respond to certain situations. With therapy sessions, you’ll learn about acceptance and how to exert your power of choice over whatever life may throw at you.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills Training Class

In DBT SKills Training class you will learn Acceptance Skills such as

Mindfulness and Distress Tolerance Skills, and Change Skills such

as Emotion Regulation skills and Interpersonal Effectiveness skills.

Mindfulness skills will teach you how to consciously focus the mind

in the present moment without judgment and without attachment to the moment. Distress Tolerance skills will give you the tools to endure a stressful situation without making it worse. Emotion Regulation skills will teach you the ability to control  or influence  which emotions you have, when you have them and, how you express and experience them. Interpersonal Effectiveness skills will teach how to communicate effectively and cope with conflict while maintaining relationships and your self-respect.

I began my professional career in North Carolina State Government, with the Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention in 1996 for eight years. In 2004, I transitioned to the mental health/substance abuse field where I held various positions within public mental health agencies. I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist since 2015. I became intensively trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) through Behavioral Tech, the company started by the founder of DBT, Dr. Marsha Linehan, in 2015.  In the same year, I became a Certified Hypnotherapist. These experiences, licenses and certifications has laid the foundation of me dedicating my professional life in helping people reveal the best versions of themselves.

My ideal client is an adult person that may be struggling with anxiety and worry, sadness, relationship difficulty, irritability and frustration, work dissatisfaction, low self-worth, and/or addictions. I believe that addiction and mental illnesses are diseases similar to medical diseases. According to the Journal of Psychiatry & Neuroscience (May, 2015), mental illness is like any other medical illness; this statement implies that mental illness has a biological basis just like other medical illnesses and should be treated in a similar manner. My treatment approaches to mental illness and substance use disorders are Evidenced-Based.

I believe therapy is most powerful when at least two knowledgeable individuals are working together towards a common goal. You are the expert on you, you know yourself better than anyone else, and I. Together, we can help you overcome barriers that is getting in the way of you becoming the best, most positive, most successful, happiest and healthiest version of you. I am looking forward to working with you and I am honored you chose to work with me!
